Demi Lovato Opens Up About Her Bipolar Disorder

Demi Lovato wants to change the way that people look at mental illness.

The 24-year-old singer has been extremely open about her bipolar disorder diagnosis and battle with addiction but wants people to know it’s possible to live a fulfilling life.

“If you know someone or if you’re dealing with it yourself, just know that it is possible to live well. I’m living proof of that,” she told People.
That’s why Demi recently launched a campaign with Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health which shows people living well despite their mental-health conditions.
Demi added that she hopes her fans will help change the way people think of mental illness saying, “They’re a part of a younger generation who hopefully is going to change the future for the next generation where mental illness won’t be so taboo to talk about. I want to prevent [stigma] from being attached from anything mental health.”
With her five-year sobriety anniversary coming up in March, Demi added, “Every day is a work in progress so hopefully I make it to 2017 with my sobriety. I take it one day at a time and for today I’m doing great.”
